Parents/Carers

At Compass School, we recognise the invaluable role that parents and carers play in the education and wellbeing of our students. We are committed to fostering strong, collaborative relationships with parents and carers to support the holistic development and academic success of our students.

Intent

Our primary intent in working with parents and carers is to create a supportive and inclusive partnership that enhances the educational experience and outcomes for our students. We aim to:

  • Foster open communication channels between school staff, parents, and carers, promoting transparency, trust, and mutual respect.
  • Involve parents and carers as active participants in their child's education, encouraging their engagement in school activities, decision-making processes, and academic support.
  • Provide parents and carers with access to relevant information, resources, and support services to enable them to effectively support their child's learning and wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with parents and carers to identify and address individual student needs, preferences, and aspirations, ensuring a personalised and inclusive approach to education.
  • Recognise and value the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives of parents and carers, fostering a culture of inclusivity, equity, and cultural competence within our school community.

Implementation

To achieve our intent, we employ various strategies and initiatives to actively engage parents and carers in the educational process. These include:

  • Regular Communication: We maintain regular communication with parents and carers through newsletters, emails, phone calls, and parent-teacher meetings to share updates on student progress, school events, and important announcements.
  • Parent Workshops and Information Sessions: We signpost parents/carers to workshops and information sessions on topics such strategies for supporting student learning at home as well as City-wide initiatives
  • Individualised Support: We provide individualised support to parents and carers, including educational workshops, and referrals to external support agencies as needed.

Impact

Our collaborative approach to working with parents and carers has had a positive impact on student outcomes and well-being, including:

  • Enhanced Student Wellbeing: Students feel supported and valued when their parents and carers are actively involved in their school life, leading to improved mental health and wellbeing.
  • Strengthened Home- School Relationships: Collaborative partnerships between school staff, parents, and carers contribute to a positive school climate and a sense of belonging for students, parents, and staff alike.
  • Increased Parental Confidence and Empowerment: Parents and carers feel more confident in supporting their child's learning and development when they have access to information, resources, and opportunities for collaboration with school staff.
  • Greater Community Engagement: Our collaborative approach fosters a sense of community ownership and responsibility for student success, leading to increased involvement and support from the wider community.
